Ahh, it’s good to be back to a regular routine. As I mentioned on Friday, I am going to resume the weekly workout recaps that I’ve missed so much since my trip. I have heard that people like to see how I “fit it all in” and frankly, sharing them here gives me extra motivation! And who couldn’t use even more motivation?
So. I’ve been back two weeks – I got home on Monday the 22nd. Of course I fell asleep early that night due to jet lag and general exhaustion from three weeks of travel. It had been a big trip with 14 flights, 1 train, and many, many buses. The type of trip where you forget what your hotel room number is because you have been in a different city and hotel each night.
So in order for this not to get super long with a detailed play-by-play of each day, I’ll just tell you what I got in that week for exercise:
Wednesday – I only mention Wednesday since I was dressed and on my way to track for the half marathon training program I’ve been coaching. I felt like I needed the exercise after all that travel, but due to thunder and lightning, it was canceled while I was en route. I got home and fell asleep in my running clothes on the couch at 7:55pm. Jet lag! But I get points for trying to get there.
Thursday – I woke up in my running clothes on the couch, so that made it easy to just go for a run in the morning! I did 4 miles to start the day.

Friday – The jet lag proved helpful – I had no issues getting up for a 6am Zengo cycling class. I had missed those classes!

Saturday – No workouts on Saturday, but I did a walk-through of the Pike’s Peek 10K finish area with others on the team planning the race. Then I hosted a birthday party for my daughter at the local indoor pool that had waterslides. So while I didn’t do a formal workout, running around all day and going down waterslides was almost one!
Sunday – The Saturday was really busy with my daughter’s birthday party, and it was good to rest my legs for Sunday’s long run. So on Sunday I re-joined my training group for a 12-mile run, and it was great! It was chilly and hilly, and featured a hill known as “The Silencer”. I love this photo I took of the group running – what a gorgeous (but cold) day! I did great getting back into the swing of things until about the last mile.
The rest of the day was busy – I took my kids to the symphony orchestra Family concert and Instrument Petting Zoo. We loved it.
Tuesday – After taking Monday as a rest day, I was ready for action on Tuesday. I wanted to kick the workouts into high gear this past week and I did! My Zengo Cycle package was expiring so rather than extending it, I got myself to two 6am cycling classes this week! The Tuesday 6am class is new, and I was so glad it existed. I am an addict.
Wednesday – Back at the track for the first time since before my big trip! I wasn’t sure how the speed work would go, and it was okay. Hard to get back into it, but I’m so glad I did it. Two mile warm up, then three 1200s with a 400 recovery after each. I skipped more cool down to get home in time for childcare.
Thursday – The second Zengo Cycle class of the week, and this time I made my dad go with me! He is an avid cyclist and even does cycling classes at the gym, but this is a little different pace and amount of “bouncing around” (his words). I think he’ll be back!
Saturday – Our Moms Run This Town group had a special event, a Boot Camp at Prime Fitness. It was great! TRX suspension and core work, plus foam rolling, very focused on runners.
Then I stood outside in the freezing cold for two hours chaperoning a Girl Scout cookie booth, and then got my hair cut. A fresh look for Spring!
Sunday – Taper run for Rock n Roll DC! We did 9 miles and it was so nice to finish up the training program with my group after so much travel. My glutes were sore from the Boot Camp and it made it tough.
So that’s my two weeks! Glad to be back. I got in 3 workouts the week I returned and 5 this week, plus other general craziness that felt like a workout!
Next weekend is Rock n Roll DC and I’m running the half marathon. I’m really looking forward to it!
